Understand cannabis. Stay informed. Stay in control.

Information for Canadian adults who are curious about cannabis, currently use it, or want to reduce or stop. You do not need to be a member. We do not sell cannabis.

There is no risk-free way to use cannabis. The lowest-risk decision is not to use it. This page provides general information, not a diagnosis, individualized dosing advice, or medical treatment.

Five essentials for informed decisions

GUIDE 01

Understand THC, CBD and potency

THC can impair attention, judgement and coordination. Higher-THC products generally increase the likelihood of adverse effects. CBD is not a guarantee of safety. Know the concentration and read labels carefully.

GUIDE 02

Lower-risk choices

Not consuming cannabis avoids cannabis-related risks. If an adult chooses to use, less frequent use, lower THC exposure, avoiding mixing with alcohol, and never driving impaired can reduce some risks. Effects vary by person and product.

GUIDE 03

Tolerance and dependence

Regular use can increase tolerance and lead to dependence. Warning signs can include needing more to get the same effect, difficulty cutting down, cravings, or continuing despite problems with sleep, relationships, work or finances.

GUIDE 04

Cutting back or stopping

Some people experience irritability, sleep changes, vivid dreams, anxiety or reduced appetite after stopping frequent cannabis use. If symptoms are difficult, or cannabis is affecting your wellbeing, talk to a healthcare professional. Help is available without judgement.

GUIDE 05

Cost and everyday impact

Consider your spending, frequency of use, missed commitments, and whether cannabis still fits your goals. You do not need to prove you have an addiction before deciding to make a change.

Your wellbeing matters

Wondering whether cannabis is causing problems?

Ask yourself: Am I using more often than I intended? Am I spending more than I can afford? Is it affecting my mood, sleep, relationships or responsibilities? Have I tried to stop and found it difficult?

These questions are for private reflection—not a clinical screening result. If you are concerned, consider discussing your use with a qualified healthcare professional.
