Company to Focus on Medical Cannabis Cultivation, Research in Cantanhede – LPC

Tilray opens its EU Campus as a hub for cultivation, processing, packaging, distribution, and research for the European Union.Tilray announced the official opening of its European Union (EU) Campus in Cantanhede, Portugal. The company hosted “healthcare professionals, government officials and local dignitaries” to its new medical cannabis cultivation, production, and distribution centre.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate another milestone,” said Tilray CEO Brendan Kennedy. He added that the opening represents expansion of Tilray’s “global presence” as they “pioneer the future” of the cannabis industry. “We are grateful for the warm welcome we’ve received from Portugal and the city of Cantanhede.”

The location itself is not new. Tilray had “successful” outdoor harvest last year and greenhouse harvest this year. Tilray reported that it invested approximately 20 million Euros ($30 million) into the facility, describing it as state of the art. The EU Campus includes indoor and outdoor cultivation sites, and processing and packaging of medical cannabis and other CBD medical products. It also includes research labs which support clinical research and product development across Europe.

Currently, there are over 100 employees onsite, though Tilray said that number is expected to double by the end of 2019.

“We’re looking forward to (serving) the European Union medical cannabis markets with high-quality, pharmaceutical-grade medical cannabis products,” Kennedy said.

Tilray One of Several Canadian Cannabis Companies in Europe – LPC

Canada directly supplies cannabis to at least eight countries around the world  — including, surprisingly, the United States. (In fact it’s Tilray that provides research cannabis to the US.) Several Canadian companies are also expanding their operations into Europe. Other than Tilray, these include AuroraCronos Group, and Canopy Growth. All are becoming global cannabis companies
