Changes to BC Cannabis Laws

New Safety Course and Translucent Windows Coming to BC Cannabis Laws – LPC

Changes to BC cannabis lawsChanges are coming to BC cannabis laws. Legal cannabis stores in BC will now be allowed to have transparent windows. Previously, many cannabis stores broke city by-laws with translucent or opaque windows. New Westminster, for example, requires all retailers have transparent exterior windows for safety and aesthetic reasons.

“We don’t want to see our retail districts with stores with essentially blacked-out windows,” said New Westminster mayor Jonathan Coté in a previous interview. “It negatively affects public safety and makes a street an unfriendly place to be.”

The other big change to BC cannabis laws is a new program called Selling It Right. The online self-learning course is similar to Ontario’s CannSell program. All new employees, cannabis retail store owners, and other related positions must complete the course before starting. Existing retail workers and owners have until September 30 to get their certification.

Selling It Right replaces the province’s previous rigorous certification program and criminal record check.

“These changes underline our government’s efforts to be flexible in the rules governing the legal cannabis industry,” said B.C. Attorney General David Eby.

The changes to BC cannabis laws are effective immediately.
