Serve Cannabis in Bars, Says Seth Rogen
Comedian and Houseplant Owner Wants to Reduce Cannabis Stigma – LPC
Comedian and actor Seth Rogen wants Canada to serve cannabis in bars just like beer and alcohol. That’s particularly true of his own brand, Houseplant.
“It’d be nice if they served it in bars,” Rogen said. “It also be nice if bars were open, so baby steps.”
He said that despite legalization in Canada, cannabis stigma still exists.
“People have tried to make me feel shame about it over the years,” Rogen said. “But I’m almost 40 now, I’m married, I have a good job and I have just found that none of the stigmas I was told to be true are true.”
Rogen and his movie-writing partner Evan Goldberg launched their cannabis brand Houseplant over a year ago with the help of Canopy Growth. The Ontario Cannabis Store stocks several Houseplant products including dried flower, pre-rolls, and cannabis beverages.
Rogen said that the day they serve cannabis in bars will be another knock against the illegal cannabis market.
“There’s a reason that we don’t buy alcohol illegally anymore,” he said. “It’s because no one has any incentive to sell illegally because they made it very easy to sell alcohol. The beer industry has been enabled to thrive in a way that the cannabis industry has not right now and until they are the same, the black market will continue to thrive.”
We Need to Fight Cannabis Stigma First
It’s doubtful that Rogen or anyone else will sway the government to allow anyone to serve cannabis in bars anytime soon. Strict regulations are in place for advertising cannabis. Health Canada has also imposed high standards to protect Canadians and the cannabis industry. Perhaps cannabis lounges will be possible one day when cannabis stigma is reduced.
