US Cannabis Legalization 2021 a Possibility
Experts See Biden and the Democrats Pushing for Legalization at the Federal Level Immediately – LPC
Experts predict that if Joe Biden wins the US presidential election this November, US cannabis legalization 2021 is a good possibility. Trump’s handling of the coronavirus and racial tensions have seen his numbers drop, making a Democratic win more likely.
“A fact that has become incredibly obvious from a chaotic 2020 is how quickly things can change,” CIBC analyst John Zamparo wrote. “We stand by our statement for 2020, but for 2021, well, when the facts change, we change our minds.”
Curaleaf Holdings Inc. Chairman Boris Jordan also believes a Democratic win in the US elections will be the tipping point. “Biden will be under pressure from the left wing of the Democratic party to move cannabis forward because of the social justice issues,” he said. There are clear connections between cannabis and racism. Cannabis legalization and decriminalization of other drugs for possession would improve social justice issues.
Earlier this year, US congressman Earl Blumenauer of Oregon said that American cannabis legalization was in a strong position. Others believed that legalization would come in 2019 then 2020, but those predictions fell flat.
So far, Biden has not committed to US cannabis legalization 2021. But then, he doesn’t have to. As mentioned above, he’ll likely feel the pressure from his party if he’s elected. But in terms of beating Trump, it’s unlikely that his position on cannabis would help.
