Medical Cannabis Ignorance in Broken Insurance Industry
US Doctor Loses Coverage from the Hartford over Medical Cannabis Ignorance – LPC
Robert Hoban wants to take on medical cannabis ignorance. He revealed how the Hartford Underwriters Insurance Company (the Hartford) took away the building insurance of an esteemed doctor and medical cannabis researcher. That doctor, Dr. Uma Dhanabalan, was livid, he said.
“Despite a decorated career in medicine and international recognition, the Hartford was cancelling her property insurance for the Global Health and Hygiene Solutions office in Cambridge because ‘(the Hartford) has learned from totalheathcarethc.com (Dr. Uma’s website) that her operations include Cannabinoid Medicine.” Hoban lists her many credentials including her fellowship to the Harvard School of Public Health.
Hoban, a Forbes contributor, wrote an article that was the focus of a post last week about Biden stigmatizing cannabis use.
Hoban openly questions the Hartford’s motives. “So why would the Hartford cancel Dr. Uma’s fire and extended property insurance for simply practicing medicine?” he writes. “Is the Hartford creating a distinction related to the practices of well-educated, licensed physicians in the cannabinoid field because the company does not understand any of this? (Ed. note: we believe medical cannabis ignorance to be a key reason.)
He continues. “Or does the Hartford want to prevent practitioners from advising patients in this well-recognized field of medicine? Perhaps this is part of a more generalized effort by the Hartford to examine the technical practices of their customers’ businesses on a micro level in order to control property uses and influence their businesses?”
Where Does Medical Cannabis Ignorance Stop?
Institutions restricting services because of outside pressure or sheer ignorance is nothing new. Legal cannabis businesses saw Canadian banking services disappear, largely believed to be due to US pressure. But this case of medical cannabis ignorance is a whole new level. If registered, decorated, celebrated physicians trying to help patients are stigmatized, where does it stop?
