Cannabis Oil Nanotechnology Shortens Onset
Process Helps Cannabis Molecules Enter the Bloodstream Faster – LPC
A relatively new cannabis oil nanotechnology helps shorten the onset of effects of edibles and cannabis beverages. Typically, cannabis effects take much longer than smoking cannabis, which allow cannabis to enter the bloodstream directly through the lungs. The problem with edibles and beverages is that cannabis molecules are not water-soluble. That means uptake into the bloodstream requires more time.
NanoSphere Cannabis International has found a way around that. The process “smashes” (as the company calls it) the cannabis molecules into smaller segments. Then, the process encapsulates them in a water-soluble nanosphere. This allows the liver to quickly uptake the nanospheres, and the cannabis molecules can enter the bloodstream within about 5-10 minutes.
Gary Symons, president of NanoSphere Cannabis International, compared the cannabis oil nanotechnology to smokeless cannabis smoking.
“It goes right through the mucous membrane into the bloodstream, just like it would with smoking, but without smoking,” Symons said. “I think that products like this are where the (recreational) market is going. Eventually people want a healthier alternative; they don’t want to smoke.”
In this article (please see link below), Symons talked about possible sprays. Today, the SYNC 15 NANO THC Oral Spray is available at the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) and other stores across Canada. (However, it is unclear if it uses the same NanoSphere Cannabis International cannabis nanotechnology, or simply something similar.)
The process sounds very similar to a water-soluble cannabis technology that Nextleaf Labs announced in September 2019. Many cannabis beverages available today also use some form of “nanocannabis”.
Promising Improvements, Especially for Cannabis Beverages
It’s promising to see this type of cannabis oil nanotechnology entering the market. For one thing, consumers have said they want products with a shorter onset time. Cannabis beverages in particular will benefit since cannabis oil nanotechnology will also get rid of the “funky” taste many have complained about. That bodes well for companies such as Canopy Growth, who have invested so much into cannabis beverages.
