Cannabis Care-Mongering – Yes, It’s a Thing

Paying Cannabis Forward in the Time of COVID – LPC

Cannabis care-mongering helps fight mental health issues during COVID-19, paying it forward to others.

In response to fear-mongering seen in the time of COVID-19, many are paying it forward with cannabis care-mongering. Lisa Campbell, CEO of Toronto-based Mercari Agency Ltd., said people have been mailing or hand-delivering cannabis kits with seeds, cannabis, and rolling papers. The goal, like many memes lately, is to help cheer people up.

“A lot of people have been talking about care-mongering as opposed to fear-mongering,” Campbell said.
“You can go down these YouTube or Google spirals where you’re just reading about horrible things happening.”

There are no hard-and-fast rules when it comes to cannabis care-mongering. Except, of course, physical distancing. With her first experience, a friend just dropped off a cannabis care package on her step.

“We did not see each other, we did not touch, we did not smoke cannabis together,” she said.

That’s when Campbell decided to pay it forward herself. She made what she called “to-go packs” adding soil and seedlings to clear plastic containers. “I just went to all my friends who I know would appreciate it and I dropped off two to four plants per person.”

She added that cannabis can help some keep good mental health – something else that is vitally important.

Sounds like a great idea – though there are caveats. Most importantly, find out if growing cannabis is legal in your province or territory. Ontario, for example, allows up to 4 plants per household. Growing cannabis at home is illegal in Quebec though.
