The difference between CBD vs THC is small but crucial. Both CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) have the same basic chemical structure, and both are derived from the cannabis family of plant. However, both affect people differently.
- THC is the psychoactive compound in cannabis that gives you the high.
- CBD is a non-psychoactive compound that can help with pain relief, sleeplessness, and other symptoms.
Further, CBD can be derived from hemp, which is also in the cannabis family. However, hemp can be grown with very low levels of THC – too low to have any effect on humans. This is part of the reason why hemp is legal in the US but cannabis is still illegal at the federal level (as of 2020).
