Dangerous Cannabis Side Effects?
“Scientific” Article Proves the Opposite in Most Cases – LPC
A version of this story first appeared at www.yahoo.com

A recent article written by Dr. Kenneth Perry, MD claims to outline dangerous cannabis side effects.
“Cannabis has seen an ever-increasing acceptance within society in the past few years,” Dr. Perry writes. “Although many people believe there are great uses of cannabis such as for pain or depression, there are obvious side effects. As an emergency physician, I see these side effects of cannabis use very often.”
The first of the dangerous cannabis side effects he mentions are cannabis vomiting syndrome or cannabis hyperemesis syndrome and paranoia. Both can be serious conditions. However, at least some of the emergency visits due to paranoia can be attributed to accidental edibles dosing. He also mentions cannabis causing schizophrenia, which may or may not be true. Possible reduced sperm count can also be a concern.
However, the other dangerous cannabis side effects Dr. Perry lists include dry mouth, hunger, and what he calls “impairment”. He quotes a Consumers Report study from two years ago that says auto accidents went up in US states that legalized cannabis. (He states the article is from “last year”, which makes him sound even less credible. Possibly recycled content? Or did he just get it wrong?) Not only have there been other reports suggesting no link between the two, the Consumers Report article specifically says there is nothing to positively link cannabis use with an increase in car accidents.
Cannabis Fearmongering Alive and Well
It appears from reading the comments at the bottom of this article that most readers don’t take this article seriously. Some refer to it as clickbait while others laugh at some of the dangerous cannabis side effects such as dry mouth and hunger. Although more cannabis research is clearly needed, cannabis fearmongering articles like this one are not.
