Saskatchewan’s First Micro-Cultivation Operation: VIGR Life Cannabis
Micro-Cultivation Faclity Includes Two Buildings and 24 Grow Pods
Earlier this month, VIGR Life Cannabis Inc. received two Health Canada licences to become Saskatchewan’s first micro-cultivation operation. The new micro-cultivation licence was introduced two years ago along with micro-processing to encourage craft cannabis growers. VIGR president and CEO Rick Turchet said the facility will start growing its “premium craft cannabis” later in October.
“We looked at this hard for a long time,” Turchet said. “We thought we could create some jobs, a great business and see where it takes us.”
Right now, VIGR will create six jobs. Turchet said he hopes to see that grow to 12 or 15 by the end of the year. The facility consists of two buildings containing 24 growing pods total. Two of those will be used for drying and packaging. VIGR has an exclusive deal with Delta 9, the Manitoba-based licensed producer, which will buy all of its product in the first year.
Saskatchewan’s first micro-cultivation operation has some solid experience behind it, Turchet said. Although it’s a new venture, several of its growers have had past success experimenting with different strains for yield and quality.
“We’re excited to be in the agriculture capital of Canada — if not the world,” he said. “We’re going to learn and, as we continue to do it, we’re going to grow.”
