420 Vancouver Goes On(line)
Famed Cannabis Festival and Protest Moves from Sunset Beach to Cyberspace – LPC
Sunset Beach will be empty this year for the first time in 420 Vancouver’s 26 years of festival and protest. But, as the organizers recognize, staying safe during COVID-19 is more important that celebrating together.
“When it comes to stuff like this, we’ll persist in the face of political challenges but not in this kind of health situation,” said 420 Vancouver organizer Dana Larsen. “You’ve got to be responsible and not have an event happening outdoors. It’s very strange but we’re going to make the best of it and I think it’ll be fun.”
To do that, Larsen is encouraging everyone to visit the Pot TV and Cannabis Life Network websites for a virtual, official 420 Vancouver event starting at 11:50 am Pacific Time – which happens to be 4:20 pm in Newfoundland.
It might be a bit of a letdown after last year’s first legal event. But they’ll make the best of it.
“4/20 is not just about Sunset Beach,” Larsen said. “It’s about a spirit and gathering together to celebrate cannabis. We can do that online as best we can.”
