Speakeasy Cannabis Club Readies for Cannabis Harvest
BC Licensed Producer Expects Cannabis Harvest of about 60,000 Plants – LPC
Speakeasy Cannabis Club, a licensed producer in Rock Creek, BC, expects its cannabis harvest this year will be about 60,000 plants.
“It’s been a long time coming; we couldn’t be more excited,” said Speakeasy Cannabis CEO Marc Geen about the cannabis harvest. “We’re expecting about 150,000 pounds total. And that’s the flower and finished product. So we will have a pretty good supply.”
The family-owned operation, which has roots five generations back, added 2.6 million square feet of outdoor cultivation area this year. That amounts to about 60 acres, one of the largest outdoor cannabis operations in Canada.
The outdoor growing area is south of Kelowna, BC in the heart of the BC interior’s renowned agricultural region.
“Being in the area where it’s so dry, relative humidity is around 30 to 40 per cent and temperatures are still up in the 30s during the day,” said Geen. “It’s absolutely perfect for plants to grow vigorously.”
Outdoor-grown cannabis is generally much cheaper to produce than indoor – about $0.25 per gram versus $2 per gram. Big LPs like Ontario-based Aleafia started creating outdoor cannabis operations last year for that reason.
If others like Aleafia have the types of cannabis harvest that Speakeasy is expecting, it should be a good year for cannabis farmers.
