Taste-Testing Cannabis Drinks
Toronto Star Reviews Seven Drinks Ontarians Can Buy from the OCS Now – LPC
Taste-testing cannabis drinks has traditionally been a hit or miss affair. In fact, the one thing that keeps cannabis beverages from becoming the next frontier is taste. That’s because THC and CBD are not water soluble – it doesn’t dissolve in water. That leads to what some people call a faintly “bong water” taste. Further, the aluminum in traditional cans lets the THC leech out of the cannabis beverage, reducing potency.
Some believe that “nanocannabis” could be the answer. This technique uses the same high-tech nanotechnology used to protect medications that can’t dissolve either. Companies such as NextLeaf Labs have invested in this technology. Others including Canopy Growth are taking a big cannabis beverage gamble by building huge bottling facilities.
As a result, there hasn’t been much news about cannabis beverages. But the Toronto Star recently reported its efforts taste-testing cannabis drinks. The reporter tried seven canna-beverages:
- Everie Lemon & Lime CBD Sparkling Water
- Veryvell Sicilian Lemon Sparkling Water
- Tweed Bakerstreet & Ginger
- Little Victory Blood Orange Soda
- Everie Mango Passionfruit CBD Sparkling Water
- House of Terpenes Limonene & Sparkling Tonic
- Mollo
While taste-testing cannabis drinks, the reporter tried a wide range of beverages differing in THC levels, CBD levels, and sugar levels. All were available from the Ontario Cannabis Store (OC) and may be available in other provinces and territories too.

At first, it seemed unusual to send a reporter who didn’t have much of a cannabis history. However, this might be an advantage when it comes to taste-testing cannabis drinks. The reporter brought a level of objectivity rather than someone who, perhaps, wanted desperately to like them.
In any case, for those people curious about where cannabis beverages are now, this article is a good place to start.
