These Eight Countries Import Canadian Cannabis – and the Last One May Surprise You

Canada Becoming the Official Supplier of Cannabis around the World

All these countries are buying Canadian weed in 2018The early bird doesn’t just get the worm, it gets to sell those worms as well. As Canada becomes the second country to legalize cannabis for recreational use, its industrial production is ramping up to meet demand domestically and abroad. This article (please click on the link below) lists eight countries that Canada supplies:

  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • Germany
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • South Africa
  • Czech Republic
  • United States

Yes – although cannabis is still listed as a Schedule 1 narcotic federally in the United States, Tilray was able to get a legal contract to become the official supplier for a clinical trial, enabling the company to export cannabis to California.

In fact, this article gives you a pretty good sense of how well established Tilray is with international markets. Tilray supplies medical cannabis in the form of oral drops to South Africa. The German government started allowing Canadian companies to bring medical cannabis into their country in September, with Tilray being the first. Tilray is active in all the countries listed here, supplying medical cannabis in some form or another.

Europe is seen as the next big market, and already Canadian companies including Tilray are moving into countries like Germany, Portugal, and Italy. It’s not surprising that these companies are moving in when there’s opportunity. But it does say a lot about Canada – and Canada’s Licensed Producer system – that these countries are choosing Canadian cannabis producers to supply their needs.

According to this article, there are over 30 countries that have legalized medical cannabis to some degree or another. But as we have seen in Canada, the big money will come if – or perhaps more accurately, when – cannabis is legalized for personal use in those countries too.
